"King Of The Fancy"

English Lops are one of the oldest known domestic rabbit breeds. They originated in the hot and humid areas of Africa. The heat in Africa had a big impact on the development of the English Lop, especially on their ears. Egyptian hieroglyphics show pictures of English Lops, which is proof that the king of the fancy has been around for a very long time!
In 1914, the National Pet Stock (now known as the A.R.B.A., or the American Rabbit Breeders Association) adopted the English Lop as it's 15th breed.

There is no doubt that the English's trademark are it's ears, but English Lops are not popular only for their ears, they also have one of the best temperaments in the rabbit family. As adults, English Lops, despite their size, are very kind and gentle. They are willing to be held and are almost always happy and in a good mood.
English Lops are very hardy eaters and drinkers, but have a tendency to vary in weight a lot. Junior bucks and does must not be shown over 9 pounds. Intermediate bucks must not exceed 10 ponds, while intermediate does must not exceed 11 pounds. Senior bucks must be 9 pounds or over, while senior does must be 10 pounds or over.
